Detoxifying Through Food
Adequate detoxification must begin with the diet, as our digestive system is one of the body’s primary elimination pathways and thus plays a vital role in the detoxification process. Detoxification programs range from total fasting, to juice fasts, to vegetable-based diets. A detoxification program should be overseen by a naturopathic doctor, who will be able to determine which program is best suited to you.
General Instructions:
- A whole food diet is recommended avoiding any common, suspected and know food allergens.
- Drink 2-3 litres of water daily. It is necessary for maintaining the body’s basic physiological functions and for the detoxification process itself. Elimination of toxins is mediated by continuously voiding and replenishing body fluids. Water should not be consumed with meals as it may interfere with digestive enzyme functioning.
- Every morning should begin with 1-2 glasses of master cleanse – see below
- Eat when you feel hungry but do not overeat. It is better to eat 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day rather than a few large, thereby maintaining blood sugar levels.
